Bose, the governor of West Bengal, has expressed his concern about a tunnel found under a house in South 24 Parganas district owned by a man alleged to be dealing in fake gold idols; he states that it is “a matter of national security”.
“The existence of the well-planned and structured tunnel reportedly leading to a nearby canal flowing into the Matla River in the Sunderbans beyond which lies the Indo-Bangladesh international border gives rise to serious national security concern,” reads a communication from Raj Bhavan on X on July 21.
The proprietor of this house who also happens to be a conman using imitation gold relics, Saddam Sardar, was suspected to have managed getting away via this underground route during police operation. Later they nabbed him.
Moreover, he claimed that local police knew about “thriving fake gold mafia” and hence “the state stands disgraced as far as its national security goes because of what has happened at present”. ”The governor also demanded that government furnish him with information concerning steps taken against organized crimes running along our shared boundaries with other countries.”
In addition, Bose urged West Bengal government to make police objective and proactive.
