The Indian cricket team’s tour of Zimbabwe has provided several upcoming talents an opportunity to display their prowess at the international scene. The list includes Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag, young all-rounders and Tushar Deshpande, a pacer.
A 22-year-old batting all-rounder from Punjab, Abhishek Sharma had a breakthrough season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, scoring 484 runs in 16 games with a strike rate of 204. 21 including an amazing total number of forty-two sixes.
They have earned him reputation by explosive batting along with handy off-spin bowling, and he will be desperate to translate his domestic success into international arena.
“I was very happy when Gill called me after my selection. When I went home, I saw that before my interview, my parents were giving interviews. That is the one moment I would cherish for the rest of my life. I felt proud. Ever since I started from day one meaning it was my dream playing for India. This feels like a reunion,” said Abhishek as quoted by Parami News.
Tushar Deshpande has bee rewarded for his consistent performances in domestic cricket. Deshpande is known for getting bounce and movement off the wicket; hence in upcoming Zimbabwe T20Is he will hope to make an impact with his pace and accuracy.
“Firsts are always special as we all say, same for me because playing for the country is very special. So travelling with them we get to know each other too which is important but also bond over fun during travels,” said the fast bowler.
Riyan Parag who is only twenty-one years old has been consistent performer in IPL where he emerged as third-highest run getter in 2024 edition making 573 runs from sixteen matches including four fifties.
“Ever since I was a kid it was a dream to travel like this. Although we play matches, but the dream of traveling in Indian dresses is always there. It’s almost a new team with many old and new faces. Ever since I was a kid, I dreamt of it. There will be a special connection with Zimbabwe,” add Parag.
Indian squad’s inclusion of these talented players shows commitment by the team management to spot and develop young talent.
