In the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), Abhishek Sharma, a young batsman of Sunrisers Hyderabad, showed his exceptional batting skills.
He had an impressive total of 484 runs in just sixteen innings at an astonishing strike rate of 204.02. His ability to hit the ball to any area of the field was spectacular.
Rajkumar Sharma, who is also Abhishek’s father and coach since he was a child, gave some information about how players such as Yuvraj Singh and Rahul Dravid have influenced his boy’s career in a big way.
“With globally recognized people like Yuvraj Singh training young kids then nothing can be better than that.I feel very good when world class players like Yuvraj Singh train young kids then there could not be anything better than that. Yuvi has had a huge impact on his career, he worked really hard and used to make him train all day and night,” Rajkumar said.
Right from childhood Abhishek considered Yuvraj Singh to be someone that he looked up to. “I want to bat like Yuvraj Singh,” this is what I would always hear from him whenever we were at home playing cricket together or watching TV matches during those early stages of his cricketing life. When they started training together Yuvi himself said ki ‘mujhe aise lag raha hai mai khud batting karraha hun’ (It seems like I am batting) and then both teams would train him while Yuvi stood watching him play,” Rajkumar revealed.
Throughout the IPL season 2024, Abhishek Sharma repeatedly proved why he is considered one of the most dangerous opening batsmen in the game today. In partnership with fellow opener Travis Head, his explosive style of batting ensured many memorable occasions during which they combined for some very high scoring totals at an average strike rate of little over two hundred.
Rajkumar also pointed out the inherent talent of Abhishek and how he came into contact with cricket legends as well. As a child, Abhishek’s ability to hit huge sixes that cleared the fence left everyone in shock.
With advancing years, his fortune could be seen in meeting Yuvraj Singh, Rahul Dravid and Brian Lara himself among others.
“I used to get good bowlers and he used to hit sixes and even clear the ball out of the stadium. Everyone used to be shocked that a kid hits long sixes. And I used to tell everyone he was gifted. When he got older he went to professional coaches and top players and I thanked them for this result. He met Yuvraj Singh, Rahul Dravid and Brian Lara and started travelling the country and playing well,” stated the youngster.
