IPL 2024, KKR vs MI Today IPL Match Live Score – In the big picture, it doesn’t matter if Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians on Saturday at Eden Gardens in this year’s IPL. While the hosts almost confirmed their playoffs berth, MI lost all their chances.
However, what might happen is that KKR can go on to secure one of the two top spots during the league stage. Already they are on top with (16 points) and will hope to win all three of these games remaining which would put them at a double advantage for the finals.
Thus far, it shouldn’t be a problem for Shreyas Iyer-led boys who have done well in IPL and produced some explosive cricket.
The weather in Kolkata may have been symbolic of what has been happening inside MI camp. The rain had begun falling over last couple of days and throughout the day it was gloomy. This season has gone from bad to worse for MI who now sit bottom with eight losses and dressing room split rumors being openly talked about.
This means that even though they have already won five IPL titles, they still need to do more before closing books for this term. Perhaps now is when this Indian players’ team should take up responsibility and give assurance to millions of India cricket supporters that next month they will lead India at T20 World Cup.
MI’s lone silver lining this year is Jasprit Bumrah. Pacers were fighting out for Purple Cap with 18 wickets from 12 games without any support from other end. They didn’t quite show any confidence in their spin department either as they only managed 13 wickets out of 68 so far taken by them in tourny.
None of MI batsmen performed well, none reaching 400 runs so far. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma made just 330 runs from his first twelve innings without showing any class at international level whatsoever; still, it was gratifying to see Suryakumar Yadav finding his touch back as he blasted an undefeated 102 from 51 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their previous game.
But all eyes were on Hardik Pandya for whom both player and captain had a poor season. The allrounder scored just 198 runs and got 11 wickets in 11 innings but he has to do better as India’s T20 WC campaign is dependent on his form and performance thereafter.
However, the last game at Wankhede saw MI putting KKR into trouble but the latter managed to win. This has been the story of KKR this season that whenever they needed help there has always been someone stepping up for them.
Thus, spinner Varun Chakraborty aptly said of this team “From now on consistency is more important. When you are on the top you have to continue doing basics.”
A determined KKR side would like to make it into playoffs and sign off their home matches with a victory
