It’s not usual for any captain to admit that they are contented with a defeat. But that was the case in the Champions One-Day Cup, one of the local cricket tournaments in Pakistan which is being held in Faisalabad.
Mohammad Haris who captained the Stallions saw his team get walloped with 231 runs in 20 overs by the Markhors led by Mohammad Rizwan at Iqbal Stadium.
Iftikhar Ahmed (60) and Salman Agha (51) both chipped in important knocks for the Markhors as they posted a total of 223 on the board…and the stallions found themselves reeling and getting bundled up for 105 runs all out with fruitful bowling from Zahid Mahmood who plucked five wickets.
Surprisingly, after the match, during the presentation. Haris, who was the losing captain, boldly claimed that he loved the fact that his side had lost.
He believed more straight “Koi galti nahi hui. Hum jo chah rahe they. Hum team ki strength check kar rhe the. [There was no mistake. We did what we wanted to do. We were checking the team’s strength”. Haris said after the match.
“In the first match, we won the toss and elected to bat. Today, we have chased so that we can know our strengths. So it happened. And, it’s good even that we are pleased that we lost,” he said.
As a senior Pakistan player, Harris’s comments were not received well by the fans who voiced out against him on various social media platforms.
The Stallions were thrashed by the Markhors by 126 runs in a terrible defeat.
Their next match will be against the dolphins on Thursday.
