Pradeep Eshwar, the Congress MLA and K. Sudhakar, the former Health Minister have been known to be bitter political rivals for some time. In 2023, Mr. Ehswar managed to beat Dr. Sudhkar in the Legislative Assembly elections with an assurance that if at all BJP’s Dr.Sudhakar leads “even by one vote” during Lok Sabha polls in his Chickballapur Assembly constituency then he will resign from assembly.
Dr. Sudhakar contested against Raksha Ramaiah, a former State Youth Congress chief who is the Congress nominee. Both parties were campaigning for their candidates at full strength.
“If Sudhakar takes even one vote extra in the Chickballapur Assembly segment, I will resign,” said Mr.Eshwar at a press conference with reporters present there.Dr. Sudaker has been involved in several verbal duels with Mr. Eshwar over the past year; when criticized by his counterpart on health matters that only resulted in him saying ‘Those who did MBBS with fake degrees are talking about me without substance.” The question now is whether or not Mr. Eshwar would really quit should BJP take lead in the Chickballapur segment.
Tactic to divert attention?
The KPCC Chief and Deputy Chief Minister D.K Shivakumar saying that his political rivals held a black magic ceremony against him and Congress government in Kerala is viewed as a strategy by the Congress leader to shift peers’ focus from government challenges according to The Hindu post on March 18th 2019. The Opposition has been hard on Governor Kimemia who works at following up issues of corruption involving some officers at various levels.Runaway accident accountant Chandrasekharan P., the accounts superintendent of Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation linked now detained top officials enterprise fraud worth several crores. The Opposition has been putting pressure on the government to relieve Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister B. Nagendra of his duties due to alleged misuse of corporation funds.
Mr. Shivakumar, who was recently transferred from one prison in Bengaluru to another in Delhi, had earlier suggested that his political rivals used black magic in an attempt to destroy Congress’ prospects for the coming elections. G Parameshwara said anyone could do black magic and wreck a government through it provided they organized themselves into one place long enough. Brijesh Kalappa, a former congress leader who decamped to AAP, contended that Mr.Shivakuamar should not speak about superstitions like this which are against scientific temper as he put it.For sure, Mr.Shivakumar’s remark days before the counting of Lok Sabha election votes surprised all.
Being ‘choosy’ in corruption
The former Minister and BJP rebel candidate from Shivamogga K.S.Eshwarappa advised police officers of the city to “Make money, but be choosy.” During a press conference at Shivamogga, Eshwarappa openly castigated policemen for cases of crime recently reported within the city boundaries (Briggs et al., 2020). What else should you expect from them? They regularly collect leisure fee from those participating in matka gambling,” he taunted
“Would officials buy sarees for their wives with these people’s money? And if they send it on education for their children do you think it would help them perform well academically?” He asked.
Moreover, he gave some tips on what could be termed “corruption etiquette”. “You receive money. I don’t object. No one here is a saint like Satya Harishchandra and because I oppose it doesn’t mean you will stop making money. But be selective when making money,” he stated. So who can offer bribes? Mr. Eshwarappa did not touch in that area.
