Like a cringe moment that the term “embarrassing” can’t even begin to describe, JD Vance, vice presidential candidate unexpectedly showed up at Holt’s Sweet Shop in Valdosta, Georgia on Thursday. He just wanted to have some donuts for his campaign team before giving a speech but it rapidly became one of those cringe moments that go viral on social media.
An Embarrassing Moment
This was when 40-year old Vance walked into the local doughnut shop with the intention of supporting small businesses and maybe woe a couple of voters there. Unfortunately, his casual approach did not work out as planned because the employee insisted on not being filmed. Even so, Vance decided not to be discouraged as he asked journalists to take pictures without her in them while introducing himself with a wide grin.
“My name is JD Vance; I am running for VP,” JD said less energetically than she replied with “OK.”
While still trying to know more about the operations of this place, he found himself receiving short answers from workers especially about how long they had worked there. The staff who seemed disinterested chose randomly twenty-four donuts which were checked by Vance including varieties like glazed sprinkles and cinnamon rolls. In this video recording people are seen blushing at such an awkward moment.
JD Vance’s Doughnut Disaster: Social Media Storm
The story has been circulating widely online and many people have used it as an example for what not to do. For example, X users took offence at him coming across as polished politician compared to reality during that visit.
“JD Vance had a very awkward visit to a donut shop in Georgia earlier. Trust us, it’s worse than you even think,” Meidas Touch tweeted showing this now-infamous footage. Others focused on how embarrassing the ordeal was as expressed by one person who commented: “I’m JD Vance…I’m running for vice president’….woman has no idea who he is and is just trying to do her job.”
The cringe, unbelievably pathetic campaign. “I don’t think my face will ever un-cringe after watching this,” said Aaron Rupar, while this person sarcastically remarked on the futile attempt of the campaign to overshadow Democratic National Convention’s triumphs: “Which is as laughably silly as trying to get JD Vance to order doughnuts in a non-cringe manner.”
From Donuts to Debates: On the Trail
Vance’s next stop after donut shop was at Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office where he was briefed about drug trafficking and gun control issues locally. The day ended with a rally where Vance and his running mate Donald Trump talked about Democrats’ position on border security and immigration.
Vance used his speech to criticize Vice President Kamala Harris for her handling of border issues saying that she has been responsible for drugs flooding into our country and illegal immigrants getting away with it. The Republicans are focusing on immigration which they hope will be enough to win over some voters in important swing states like Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina among others according recent surveys that show marginally close races.
