This opinion is also supported by the great Sachin Tendulkar, who commended Jay Shah on Wednesday on being a game-changer as far as women in sport is concerned. Shah, who will now take over the BCCI chair from December firstonetnry bulletin and becomes the youngest such officially at the age of thirty five.
Shah, who was appointed BCCI secretary in October 2019, Parami reported has managed during his five years term to balance men’s and women’s cricket.
While Shah is set to quit BCCI to take up new challenges at ICC, Tendulkar was among many current and former players who wished the young administrator well as he took the reins of the BCCI from Shah.
“Passion and sincerity and readiness to achieve something useful for beautiful sport is what is required in a bureaucracy. In that respect, @JayShah was a perfect @BCCI secretary,” posted Tendulkar on X.
“The efforts he is putting in trying to emphasize on both women’s cricket as well as men’s cricket, awarded BCCI the status of a trendsetter, which should be emulated by several other boards as well. I wish him all the best personally and professionally as he takes charge as the youngest chairman in the history of the @ICC,” he said.
Sharp will be the fifth Indian to become the President of ICC, and Tendulkar was optimistic that he would carry forward the torch and goodwill. “Many Indian gentlemen have been the manager of the ICC, like Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya, Mr. Sharad Pawar, Mr. N. Srinivasan, Mr. Shashank Manohar. He will be going safer less likely that he will be going backward,” he added.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly who was BCCI president when Shah was first elected said, “..where they lined us again to do more of the dirty work,” “Congratulations to Jay Shah @JayShah on his new role as ICC chair.. wish him a great journey ahead ..”
Virat Kohli, the star batsman of Indian cricket Team also congratulated Shah on his new assignment with the ICC. “Many congratulations @JayShah on your election as the chairman of the ICC. Wishing you the best of luck in the future,” he posted.
India’s Test and ODI skipper Sharma tweeted, “Heartiest Congratulations @JayShah”.
Jasprit Bumrah did not stay behind when he stated, “Congratulations @Jay Shah bhai! Your passion for the game will take it further. Best of luck to you!”
