Jasprit Bumrah, India’s pacer, clarified on Thursday that he has no intention of retiring from T20I cricket soon. ‘Long way away’ was his recent response to queries about if he is to retire from the shortest form of the game.
India emerged triumphant in the T20 World Cup which they contested at Barbados after defeating South Africa in a final match played there. Throughout the tournament, the talented bowler has been instrumental in India’s success delivering excellent performances.
Later on, when other three prominent Indian players including captain Rohit Sharma, star batsman Virat Kohli and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced their decisions to retire from playing T20Is, many people believed Bumrah would follow suit.
Nevertheless, Bumrah has strongly affirmed that he will never copy them but instead represent India in the T20Is for a long time to come.
“It’s (my retirement) is a long way away. I have just started. Hopefully it is far away now,”Bumrah said during the felicitation at Wankhede Stadium.
Bumrah’s superb bowling was pivotal to India’s success at the ICC World Cup putting an end to thirteen years of drought for a highly-prized title His devastating spells left the opposition batters reeling, as he maintained an impressive economy rate of just 4.17 throughout the tournament.
As soon as Indian players were declared T20 World Cup champions following their hard fought victory over another strong team by England who finished runners up and third place went to Australia , emotions ran high with tears of joy running down their faces
For Bumrah though this moment was particularly special as he was joined by his son Angad which added another dimension of feeling to it. “It was unreal; usually I am not one who stops talking but seeing my son…the emotion that came in…I don’t cry after the game but I started crying and I cried two, three times”, expressed Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah’s consistent brilliance throughout the tournament resulted in his being named Player of the Tournament, underlining his high value to India’s success.
