For a lot of people, people say bowlers win matches particularly in test cricket where the team that takes 20 wickets consistently is more successful. This is where Jasprit Bumrah has altered the Indian narrative on fast bowlers.
But, it does not matter if one says it while being naughty as this somehow equates to respect from the batsman making his debut against him and telling him “go easy on me”. Also, talking about other theories about Bumrah, he also suggests that when it comes to India/more than anything else the country wants a batsman who can hit big shots rather than just sending stumps cart wheeling down.
However, this doesn’t make Bumrah any less of “an advocate for bowlers”.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Jasprit Bumrah said candidly: “I’m all for bowlers,”. I know we love our big hitters but hey, I think that bowlers are captains of cricket.”
To Bumrah’s eye, Test cricket is the pinnacle because someone who does well in red-ball cricket will easily excel in white-ball cricket too.
“I belong to a generation where we used to watch more of test cricket on TV so far even today it remains my favorite format simply because if I perform well there everything else will fall in line,” said India’s 30-year-old pace spearhead who has taken 159 scalps from 36 Tests at an average of 20.69 and economy rate of just 2.74.
One thing that makes Jasprit Bumrah stand out as a firm believer in bowling fraternity goes without saying; abolition of one rule entirely.
“Get rid of free hit off no ball,” stated Bumrah clearly.
