The three-match One Day International (ODI) series between India and Sri Lanka will commence on August 2, for which a squad of 16 players has been named by the Sri Lankan cricket team.

On August 4 and 7, the team is scheduled to participate in additional matches at the Premadasa Stadium.

Therefore, this has led to calling up Chamika Karunaratne as well as young batsmen Janith Liyanage and Nishan Madushka from among those picked to represent the country in these games.

In conclusion, It is very versatile with great experience that makes Chamika Karunaratne an asset who could either be used for batting or bowling purposes.

As opposed to this, Janith Liyanage and Nishan Madushka may be relatively new but they have started showing signs of promise. He has played in nine ODIs while he has participated in eight tests indicating that they are gaining experience at international level.

Charith Asalanka leads the series squad while Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama are names that stand out suggesting a mix of youthfulness and seasonedness.

For instance Wanindu Hasaranga and Kamindu Mendis being all-rounders who are expected to play pivotal roles with bat as well as ball respectively. The pace-spin department consists of Maheesh Theekshana, Akila Dananjaya, Dilshan Madushanka, Matheesha Pathirana besides Asitha Fernando giving them alternatives of either pace or spin bowling.

It can be deduced from their inclusion that selectors trust Chamika Karunaratne ,Janith Liyanage and Nishan Madushka’s performances when it comes into playing at its utmost extent.
