The Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir in Coimbatore starting on August 27 will feature Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I captain. Suryakumar himself confirmed his participation last week while Shreyas Iyer also announced that he would be available for the match against Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday through Deepak Patil.
However, following India’s 3-0 series victory over Sri Lanka under his captaincy, the 30-year-old cricketer is currently spending time with her wife Devisha Shetty at an undisclosed location. On Wednesday, he posted a picture on Instagram with the caption: “Kapdo ke liye maafi. Iss kaam ke liye to time hi time hai.”
In this light, The Buchi Babu Tournament offers an invaluable opportunity for both Iyer and Suryakumar to fine-tune their skills further. In readiness for the international season, the BCCI is encouraging Indian national team players to participate in domestic matches so as to remain in top form.
Even though he has excelled in shorter versions of cricket, Suryakumar is eyeing Test cricket.
Mumbai will be captained by Sarfaraz Khan who has recently been in excellent form at the domestic level. There is no doubt that Mumbai’s batting line up will be strong with Iyer and Suryakumar joining them which improves their chances of making a big impact in the competition.
