According to Cricbuzz, Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan’s participation in Duleep Trophy’s opening match at the Anantpur Stadium on Thursday is up in the air, probably due to an injury.
Ishan Kishan is in the Team D for which Shreyas Iyer will be the captain. While it is still unclear as to how much of the Duleep Trophy he manages to complete. The report says that Sanju Samson would take over from Kishan. Team D will play its second match from September 12 within the Duleep trophy.
Then there will be four teams in the tournament and there will be each team playing 3 matches.
Ishan Kishan was earlier attending Buchi babu tournament in chennai where Jharkhand played just two matches and exited in the leagues itself. He scored a century (115) and a 41 no out in the first game. While in the other two innings of the second match, were 1 and 5 runs in against U.P.
Ishan Kishan’s focus is of making it back to the national team after failing to make it to the list of centrally contracted players of BCCI. Due to his non-participation in any domestic matches on a non-national duty period. Despite the fact that BCCI instructs participation on the ground that the player is fit.
He has to participate in domestic matches to be in contention for the Indian team once more. Hence, he had his eyes set on playing the Duleep Trophy Post Buchi Babu. Which is an unappreciated red ball competition. He had no clue that playing any domestic tournaments was a prerequisite to selection in the Indian team again.
Inclusion in the Duleep Trophy is visible as an attempt on the part of the BCCI to change its position towards Ishan Kishan. But this reported injury would surely come as bad news to the left hander.
As expected, India’s T20 international captain Suryakumar Yadav is also in the rehab process as well. It is currently undergoing treatment at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru for a hand injury.
