The State government suspended senior IPS officer N. Sanjay with immediate effect for allegedly abusing his powers when he was Additional Director General of Police (Crime Investigation Department) and Director General of AP Disaster Response and Fire Services.
In the Government Order issued by Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad on Tuesday (December 3, 2024), it was stated that Mr. Sanjay has been suspended under 3(1) of All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969, for being the prime accused in misutilisation of government funds in the process of floating tenders and shortlisting a Vijayawada-based private company towards the installation of a web portal and supply of hardware to the Disaster Management Department.
Also, the government found out that Mr. Sanjay got electronic devices procured for the Fire Services for the implementation of Agni App without either inviting tenders through e-procurement or obtaining competitive quotations from different vendors or firms.
Besides, exorbitant amounts were paid for the devices, whose delivery was entrusted to a private company by flouting the norms.
Mr. Sanjay is also said to have committed irregularities as Additional DGP (CID) in the conduct of SC & ST awareness workshops.
Mr. Sanjay has been ordered not to leave Vijayawada during the period of suspension, when he would be paid subsistence allowance.
