India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, was in full flow with the bat during the practice sessions in Sri Lanka after joining the ODI squad for the three-match series beginning on Friday and one of his big hits in the nets even had head coach Gautam Gambhir momentarily looking up and wondering where it had gone.
Rohit Sharma, who announced his retirement from T20Is following India’s T20 World Cup victory in June 29 this year in the Caribbean is fresh to lead India again in 50-over internationals. Also making a comeback into the team is Virat Kohli who also retired from T20Is after India won T20 world cup but for the two experienced campaigners it didn’t take much of a time to get back into rhythm in white-ball cricket played over more overs as both Rohit and Virat felt at home with conditions that are not so dissimilar from those prevailing back home.
During one of the training sessions in Colombo, with Rohit facing bowlers in the nets, he launched into a massive aerial shot. This shot caught Gambhir’s attention instantly as he stood by watching its movement on an expression of surprise spread large across his face.
The first ODI will be played on Friday at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo followed by second and third game on July 4 and 7 respectively at Same venue.
In terms of T20I tour matches, India were led by Suryakumar Yadav who encouraged them to beat host nation 3-0 which was concluded by visitors through last match super over amazing win.
