On Thursday night, Indian cricketers reached Chennai for the preparations of their Test series against Bangladesh which is soon to be conducted. The first Test match is scheduled to start on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. This series marks India’s return to Test cricket after the T20 World Cup.
Rookie champions Jasprit Bumrah, Rishab Pant and KL Rahul were also spotted on the team bus suggesting that these players will make a comeback in tests.
Since the T20 World Cup in which Bumrah put up a spectacular show in the woods by winning the southern continent, he hasn’t played any tests. Pant has been out of action since a tragic automobile accident late last year. At the same time, the injured Rahul, who did not play in the England series, got on the same plane.
The side which Roalt Sharma is leading has notable players such as veteran Kohli. Kohli is eyeing a return to red-ball action after the English series at home which happened after the birth of his son.
Bangladesh recently wrapped up a Test series in which they defeated Pakistan 2-0. They had also to make some changes because of injuries with Jaker Ali who has not played a senior game replacing fast bowler Shoriful Islam.
Having taken over the reins as head coach, Gautam Gambhir looks keen to win his first Test series. This series paves the way for the encounters between India and New Zealand and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
With the inclusion of important players back and high pressure, the upcoming India Bangladesh Test series is likely to be interesting.
