Avesh Khan, the fast bowler of India commended Shubman Gill’s leadership and referred to him as a “bowler’s captain.” Avesh highlighted his supportive captaincy which has helped him take key wickets in the ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe.
In the third T20I match played at Harare, Gill scored 49-ball 66 to set up 183 runs target for Zimbabwe. Avesh took 2 wickets for 39 runs that led India to a win by 23 runs and enabled them to take a 2-1 lead in this series.
During an interview with Sony Sports after the game, Avesh acknowledged and appreciated Gill’s captaincy style. He noted that Gill lets bowlers free and takes over when one needs him. “Shubman Gill is a bowler’s captain. The freedom that he gives to the bowlers is immense, they get their own fields. If you execute your plans well he always backs you,” said Avesh. “If things go slightly awry and you get hit, he brings his own plan and tells you what needs to be done. That always helps a lot. He has contributed to me getting one or two wickets.”
Avesh also reflected on his bowling approach across different periods of games.
“I always tell my captains whenever we have talk that I don’t mind when I should bowl but instead he can put me in any time of need together with which I am ever ready for it. The attitude with which I bowl is always trying to get wickets for my team”, added Avesh.
So far in this series, Avish has been an outstanding Indian player having taken six wickets at an economy rate of 7.54 in three matches. The most notable was during the second game in which he registered figures of 3/15 contributing significantly towards India’s triumph by over one hundred runs.
