Rahul Dravid, one of India’s greatest batsmen, holds many records in cricket, from facing the most balls in test matches to being the fourth-highest run scorer ever.
Nicknamed “The Wall,” he was a master of concentration and technique who could keep an innings going by himself.
Dravid scored 13,288 runs in his International Test career and retired in 2012 at an average of 52.31 runs per innings after playing 270 Tests
Dravid has scored 36 centuries in Test matches which is second only to Sachin Tendulkar’s (51) for an Indian cricketer..
However, Dravid was the first player to achieve this landmark scoring his tons against Bangladesh in Chittagong during the second match of their two-game series.
Gautam Gambhir opened for Team India as they chased United Arab Emirates’ total while Rahul Dravid notched up yet another hundred; also his eighteenth so far. The fifty took Dravid 95 balls and the century came off ball number196.
This partnership of 259 between Gambhir (139) and Dravid (160), is highest ever opening stand made by India outside its territories. Gambhir would reach his half century slower requiring sixty deliveries but would score faster thereafter seventy-one more deliveries His quickfire innings allowed Rahul enough time to get into his groove positioning himself into a place where he could play with ease.
In addition, skipper Sourav Ganguly contributed with a knock of 88 helping the team amass a total above five-hundred and forty runs
Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ashraful top-scored with an unbeaten 158 but even that could not prevent both following on or losing by an innings.
Irfan Pathan completed a five-wicket haul in Bangladesh’s second innings too as India won the match by an innings and eighty three runs on Day Four of the Test.
The first Test match between India and Bangladesh in a two-match series is scheduled to take place in Chennai on 19th September.
