Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik went on records to commend the efforts displayed by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja during a remarkable counter-attacking partnership which was very critical in rescuing India from a precarious position on Day 1 of the first Test versus Bangladesh in Chennai. With Ashwin leading at a remarkable 107 and Jadeja more solid than ever for 86, India was at a comfortable 339-6 when the match was called off for Saint Gallen, Massachusetts. Ehsan Khan had struck the Indian top batting order with a stupendous four wickets with Hasan Mahmud aiding Mahmud.
He was particularly taken with how Ashwin and Jadeja maintained and eventually regained control in the match after being 144/6. The pair added 195 runs without losing their wicket and did so on their understanding and game intellect.”Karthik explained the approach of both pair on Cricbuzz, “All these things were amazing when they batted. The experience they have, the way they started, how Ashwin played that backfoot punch first up, magnificent. And Jawad Jadeja going over mid-on and getting her boundaries.” “Sure, the enemy is on the offensive, keen to land a couple of telling blows but it is your turn to land a few yourself and wait because they will break down sometime and make things out.”
This match saw Ashwin notch up his 6 th test century while Jadeja impressed everyone as always and they were both a worrying sign for the opposition as they helped fiche the aggressive counterpunching innings out of the Indian team. He particularly pointed out how their partnership was troublesome to a charged up pace attack spearheaded by Mahmud, who even that very day claimed the scalps of Rohit Sharma, shubman gill, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant earlier in the day.
