Twelve years after the last international cricket game in Gwalior, the T20I match between India and Bangladesh on Sunday (6 October) does not feature the same former ground.
The first T20I against Bangladesh will take place on the first mat covered Shrimant Madhav Rao Scindia Cricket Stadium, Gwalior, where India will be playing its first match.
Captian Roop Singh Stadium was the venue earlier used in Gwalior. It was the venue for World Cup, and other international matches. Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) also still has home matches around in Indore at Holkar Stadium.
When was the last time Gwalior hosted an international match?
For history making it will be the first match ever in that city since for the first and last time till now the India-South Africa one day international was held on February 24, 2010 in which Sachin Tendulkar made history by becoming the first male cricketer in the world to score 200 runs in an innings of a one day international.
“What a milestone! ‘First man to reach 200 runs on this planet’. ‘200 runs and superman of India’ who else can it be except Sachin Tendulkar Take a bow Master’, almost cursed and equally shouted Ravi Shastri when this landmark went in ‘Tendulkar and first stand blondie chesek around chest in huge round arms’ cum Sanket da’s Bulwark.
The 2022 Irani Trophy Match between Madhya Pradesh and Rest of India was held at Captain Roop Singh State, however, there is still no international cricket since that fateful day when Sachin Tendulkar ruled the crease.
