A forensic inquiry will be undertaken by the Indian authorities to find out the cause of fire that broke out on Saturday (September 28, 2024) at a Tata Electronics manufacturing plant that produces Apple iPhone components, as, Tamil Nadu’s state official explained on Sunday (September 29, 2024).
The factory that is closed on Sundays, normally a production free day, would most probably not be given state approval to restart operations during the course of the week, Monday, asvtwo people familiar with the situation claimed.
Requesting comment from Tata Electronics and Apple during after hours was rather pointless, as such comments were not forthcoming. Commenting earlier, Tata Electronics had said that it will make appropriate investigation and further protective measures including those of the employees and others will be made.
This has been the most recent incident where Apple suppliers in the Indian sub continent region have been affected in recent years, where the US firm is wanting to expand its supply chain further towards other than China whose appeal as a market is appreciated.
According to one fire officer that reported to Reuters, the fire in the site in Hosur city west Belt, originated at a chemical store site.
It has been “completely put out,” and fumes also ceased, as informed Sarayu K M, an administrative officer in the district.
A couple of workers who were taken in to be treated are likely to go home onid such a timeline as September 30, 2024.
‘We can now go in to investigate,’ Mr. Sarayu said, adding that a forensic team from state capital Chennai has been dispatched.
W Whether a fire damaged adjacent structures, one of which plans to begin production of iPhones by the year-end, was not known.
