NEW DELHI: India is set to welcome the South Africa women’s cricket team for a highly anticipated multi-format series, marking the return of Test cricket between the two nations after nearly a decade.
Scheduled from June 16 to July 9, the series, announced by the BCCI, encompasses a Test match, three ODIs, and an equal number of T20Is.
The ODIs will unfold at Bengaluru, while the Test and T20Is will grace Chennai, as previously indicated by PTI on May 3.The last time these teams crossed paths in a Test match was back in November 2014.
The cricketing festivities will commence with a warm-up one-day match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 13, featuring the visitors against the Board President’s XI.
Notably, the ODIs hold significance within the framework of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022–2025. Scheduled for a 1:30 PM start, the ODIs will be followed by T20Is kicking off at 7 PM.
Originally slated under the ICC Future Tours Programme (FTP) for late 2023, the white-ball matches had to be rescheduled due to the Men’s ODI World Cup hosted in India last year.
However, the inclusion of the Test match underscores a joint effort by the BCCI and Cricket South Africa (CSA) to elevate the stature of women’s cricket in the traditional format.
Recalling India’s recent Test successes against England and Australia in December last year, where they emerged victorious by 347 runs and eight wickets, respectively, this upcoming series promises thrilling encounters and further growth for women’s cricket on the global stage.
