Talking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra, the former cricket player for India has given his views concerning the current selection of team members for white-ball series against Sri Lanka. That’s why he pointed out some interesting aspects like including Riyan Parag who did not perform well during T20I series versus Zimbabwe and appointing Shubman Gill as a deputy captain instead of Hardik Pandya.
On July 27th, India is going to play three T20Is and three ODIs with Sri Lanka in Pallekele.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel Chopra reviewed the T20I squad for the series. He drew attention to Shubman Gill’s new role and choice of Parag instead of other key players such as Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad. “Shubman Gill would be my vice-captain. In that case, I agree with the entire world. But what about Hardik? He was our vice-captain during World Cup too. And he played so well too. To win it also India won the World Cup but after that this name is not there as vice-captain,” commented Chopra.
“Riyan Parag has bee named in both teams, both ODI’s and T20I’s. He has got his name despite not having a good tour in Zimbabwe. They are not there; Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad – when I say I am talking about T20I’s do you understand what I mean? Well yes their names are missing but Riyan Parag by chance is there,” stated ex Indian opener.
Parag could only muster up 24 runs at a rate of 88.88% from two innings while playing in the Zimbabwean T2OI series however Sharma had struck 124 runs inclusive of one ton at an average strike rate of 174.64 in four innings and Gaikwad had scored 133 runs in just three innings at an average strike rate of 158.33.
The first T20I will take place on 27th of July in Pallekele while ODIs will commence from the second of August in Colombo; this is a series against Sri Lanka that will come under much scrutiny.
