Donald Trump’s running mate and Republican vice presidential candidate, JD Vance, said US President Joe Biden is a man of diminished mental powers who can no longer lead and campaign for his re-election.
Democrats have been calling on Biden to relinquish his candidacy since last month’s pathetic debate with Trump. Nevertheless, Biden reaffirmed his commitment to campaigning.
JD Vance, the senator from Ohio questioned Joe Biden’s cognitive aptitude in one of his tweets that went viral; he wondered whether or not “if Joe cannot run again then he cannot be CIC either…How do any Dems who wanted him out as president argue in good faith that he should stay on as Potus?” .
Some other Democrats are also urging that Biden quits as the party nominee. These were some of the criticisms arising from the former Vice President’s speech over 90 minutes during which he had great difficulty speaking clearly and mixing up statistics. This became highlighted when Senator Martin Heinrich joined four House members in publically demanding a withdrawal by Biden from seeking re-election.
Biden received more bad news this week with a report indicating that almost twenty Democratic congressmen were asking him to withdraw from the 2024 race. Most of these legislators including National Security Democrats Jim Hines and Adam Smith come from safe Democrat districts. The first call came from long-serving Representative Lloyd Doggett of Texas, whose seat is safe and has served for nearly three decades.
Although there are calls within his own party for him to quit, Mr Biden stood firm about his bid for presidency. On Friday he replied to Donald Trumps previous speech at the Republican National Convention saying it was “a dark picture” for America’s future.
“This is not America – we aren’t like this,” remonstrated Biden with emphasis.
