On Thursday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) charged Praveen Jayawickrama, a 25-year-old spin bowler from Sri Lanka, with three breaches of the anti-corruption code. It is argued that these charges originate from Jayawickrama’s failure to report an approach from the match fixing syndicate and his interference in an ongoing investigation.
The ICC revealed on Tuesday that Jayawickrama was approached to fix international matches during this year’s edition of the Lanka Premier League. Moreover, he was requested to tell another player to get involved in match-fixing activities during this tournament too.
This statement by ICC showed how serious they are about the case of the young bowler.
“According to Reuters news agency, it is said that this seamer from Sri Lanka has been established as one who had deleted messages related to plans for corrupt practices,” stated ICC.
Jaywawickrama has until August 6th 2024 to submit his response within 14 days time.“
Jaywawickrama made his International debut in April 2021. During his first ever Test match against Bangladesh he took away eleven wickets creating a record showing off his skills impressively. But since June 2022 there have been no any international appearances for Jaywawickrama representing Sri Lanka.
