The camaraderie and support that Suryakumar Yadav sees among his fellow players bring joy to his heart. In this regard, he is determined to become a real captain who not only leads the cricket team but also helps it traverse beyond the duties of the responsibility of being a cricket captain.
Suryakumar, for instance, in his first series as permanent T20I captain, demonstrated exceptional skills thereby earning the prestigious ‘Player of The Series’ award from two outstanding performances in early matches.
However, he went on further and staked claims to two vital wickets with his off-spin bowling during a nail-biting Super Over win which added more satisfaction to his achievements.
“I don’t want to be a skipper but rather the leader”, Suryakumar Yadav said at post-match presentation ceremony according to Parami News.
An endless admiration was expressed by him for their bravery and determination displayed by some players while they were defending a meager total of 137 runs.
“It’s easy for me because when we talk about talent level of some guys or self-belief, you know all my job is done. “Positivity” “and” “love for one another” is too much. After the last game I told – few boys will be rested sitting out they were ready”.
“They have made my job easy and when I bat I have less pressure,” he said.
According to the Indian skipper, people must appreciate low-scoring games just as they enjoy scores of 220 or 230 since it adds balance to the game.
“More than last over what I reckon makes me feel good is when we were like 30/4 and 48 for 5 how boys showed character. On that track 140 was a par score. I told if we put our hearts into it we could pull this off.”
Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka could not give an explanation of what was wrong with the middle-order in all three games.
“Especially the middle-order and lower-middle order, definitely, really disappointed. Very bad shot selection. Spinners were bowling so Wanindu Hasaranga came up the order and we told him to hit one or two boundaries,” Asalanka said.
“I think especially we played some wrong shots and when the ball gets old, the shot selection has to be spot on.” We can’t give excuses; we have got to do more than this.
The dejected Lankan skipper added, “I want to see good batting performance in ODIs and I think the boys will do better.”
