When asked about why he left the US presidential race, Joe Biden in his first interview said that pulling out his name was essentially a result of his decision. He also noted that he decided to do this for two reasons: maintaining national focus on Trump and getting Democratic Party prepared for November election.
“I think I have an obligation to this country as much as I’d love to be president. The most important thing you can do, and that is – we must, we must, we must defeat Trump,” he said during an interview with Parami News.
The President of the United States announced his withdrawal from the competition on July 21 after the less than stellar performance in a presidential debate with Donald Trump. Many Democrats criticized the debate demanding Biden’s withdrawal.
“When I ran originally, I thought I’d be what they call a transition president,” added 81-year-old Joe Biden “I can’t even tell you my age. It’s hard for me to say it.”
Biden stated that if Trump loses there will not be peaceful transfer of power, “If Trump loses at all, zero percent chance. He means what he says. We don’t take him seriously. All these things about ‘there’s gonna be bloodshed if we lose,’ or ‘it’ll have to be a stolen election’. ‘We’re not taking it literally.’
He added: “Look what they’re trying to do now in local poll places where there are vote counters or putting people in place where they can control the voting machines.”
Biden has been strongly supportive of Kamala Harris as well as Tim Walz running for President and Vice-President respectively.
“They are running as candidates who are going to represent all Americans.” Here is what Biden said about Harris and Walz when considering their run toward Presidency- “Once elected, They will govern in behalf of every American.”
