Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest cricket players ever, can’t be called ambidextrous in the conventional sense that he’s not able to write or throw with both hands. However, he has a unique talent that may appear as if he were ambidextrous since he is sometimes seen batting left-handed while primarily being right-handed.
Moreover, Tendulkar used his left hand effectively to bowl spin and even practiced bowling sessions with occasional instances of left-arm orthodox spin. However, for professional reasons, his right arm was used for bowling purposes except when he bowled right-arm leg-spinners or medium pacers.
This adds to his legend but technically speaking, he isn’t considered to be an ambidextrous person.
Tendulkar has repeatedly spoken about how comfortable it is for him to use both hands for daily tasks. The legendary batsman expressed this attribute by saying that while writing and eating is done using the left hand side of the body; wooden sticks are usually handled with the assistance of the other hand.
Every year on August 13th people celebrate ‘International Left-Handers Day’ – a day set aside to recognize and appreciate all that makes life different and special among people who have been born this way.
Tendulkar’s video on social media shows him playing some beautiful shots with his left hand to mark ‘International Left-Handers Day’.
Sachin took to X where he posted a video clip of him playing cricket using only his left hand; in which there are some smooth drives and great slogs.
“This is a bat in my hand,” says Sachin in the video adding “Today is Left-Handers Day so everything left can be right and anything right can go wrong! Let’s try it.”
The video also features Sachin bowling lefthanded against himself-as though two versions of himself competing against each other.
Sachin tweeted “This one is for my left-handed friends… Happy #InternationalLeftHandersDay!”
While playing, Sachin had the privilege of sharing the field with many batsmen and bowlers in cricket history including Vinod Kambli, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, Kumar Sangakkara, Brian Lara, Michael Hussey, Sanath Jayasuriya, Chris Gayle, Adam Gilchrist, Chaminda Vaas, Wasim Akram, Daniel Vettori, Mitchell Johnson and others.
