If there is an art in bowling, it’s a yorker, Josprit Bumrah has mastered it. Essentially in a cricket crazy nation, India is known for strike-bowling and, when it comes to striking, one can hardly beat Bumrah who can come in and destroy line ups. He is able to strike at the toe and send the stumps flying everywhere. This makes him in-fact a nightmare to batters everywhere.
Meanwhile, ahead of the opening Test, India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir also shared his views on Bumrah and termed him as “the best fast bowler in the world in all formats”.
And what is Bumrah that other fast bowlers in the world don’t have?
India wicket keeper Parthiv Patel who has been a witness to the transformation of fast bowler Bumrah has provided some answers to the broadcaster’s question about his meteoric rise.
Period, checkout how other bowlers are able to blanket and more diffuse the Grenade. ‘Nobody Does It Better Than Goody’, I think is the sentiment India’s Ninetieth, JioCinema and Sports18, interviewed for TimesofIndia.com told timesofindia.
Bumrah has been outstanding in the opening test match played against Bangladesh in Chennai.
After India scored 376 runs while batting first, it was now time for the highlight of the game when Bumrah came out to bowl. He picked up 4 wickets with 2 of them coming off bowled outs as Bangladesh got bowled for just 149 runs.
Bumrah’s game started to click with the ball as well and he achieved figures of 4/50 in 11 overs at an economy a little over the required rate which is 4.50. He managed to dismiss Shadman Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Hasan Mahmud, and Taskin Ahmed.
Bumrah has played only 36 Test matches, but he has achieved some impeccable figures in his career so far. He has already achieved 10 five-wicket hauls and has been instrumental in winning some exceptional matches for his country including that of Advantage In The Year 2021, England, Melbourne in 2018 and Visakhapatnam 2024.
His influence is not restrict only to the longest format, he also was important in India winning the T20 World Cup that happen a few months back.
“If I say I have seen him since he played his first-class game, it is true. His primary weapon has been that of an inswing bowler. But now you see how he can make the ball go out. He has perfect yorker length where the headache of getting chucked in the toe is very refreshing since he can conceal his slow balls pretty well. A lot went into his conditioning. For hours he does the same thing and such deliveries in the nets,” added the former wicket-keeper.
At first, he refrained from any bouncers, but surprisingly, he has recently begun to include them in his arsenal. He has all the variations and has become proficient in executing them. Dressing while circulating the arguments, and how to bring the issues to bear and support one’s bowler under any circumstances – that is why he is such an eccentric in the world of bowling. He does have a very positive attitude and good outlook,” said Patel.
“For him, it’s not the result of a single day effort. There was a lot of hard work in the nets or in practice in learning that art,” he has said.
