An Indiana father will be imprisoned for 16 years after being convicted of neglect following the horrifying finding of his infant son with severe injury due to having over 50 rat bites all over the face and body, Fox 59 reports.

The mother of the infant, Angel Schonabaum accepted the plea deal recently and is scheduled to receive her sentence within the coming weeks. The infant’s aunt named Delaina Thurman was placed on probation concerning her part in the case.

In the shocking incident in the year 2023, Police were called to the house after David Schonabaum called and said he has found his six-month baby in a blood pool.

The little one was later pictured with multiple lesions including a cheek, forehead and nose all which were covered by at least fifty rat bites. The medical authorities noted that the infant’s injuries would cause great deformities.

As Indiana news station informs, Schonabaum’s house was visited by the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) on September 5. Such was the case on September 5 when 2 of the children’ s teachers visited the home….on September 1, 2 of the children informed their school teachers that “mice nibbled their toes while they slept”. Aunt Delaina Thurman, who used to live with them at the time of the visit, told the DCS worker that the child’s toes’ marks must have been due to the bed frame scratches, and did not believe the mother’s warnings.

Both aides reiterated that there is sufficient evidence to warrant the courts decision that Schonabaum is guilty of culpable neglect considering the baneful conditions which were a precondition to this dreadful event. They characterised the family home as “dirty and unsanitary dwelling infested with rats” and claimed that for two years, Schonabaum had failed to comply with many directives from the child services department ofthe prosecution and remediate the conditions of the house.

The prosecutors made clear all the stresses that would follow the child in his entire life, explaining how he will suffer from the disgrace he will receive for the rest of his life due to the carelessness of his father.
