The first woman from minority community to achieve the rank of brigadier in a Muslim-majority country, Pakistan Army Medical Corps’ Dr Helen Mary Roberts has made history. Brigadier Helen was among Pakistan Army officers promoted as brigadiers and full colonels by the Selection Board, The News reported last Sunday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated her on her promotion to Brigadier, saying her hard work is appreciated by all who know her and the entire nation is proud of thousands of women like her in minority communities serving their country with distinction.
“I myself and the nation congratulate Brig Helen Mary Roberts on getting the honour of the first female from minority to be promoted as Brigadier in the Pakistan Army,” he said.
Brigadier Dr. Helen is senior pathologist and has been serving for 26 years now in Pakistan Army.
General Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff commended the role played by minorities towards countries development during Christmas celebration that took place at Christ Church Rawalpindi last year.
According to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics in 2021, Muslims constitute 96.47% of total population, Hindus form 2.14%, Christians have a share of 1.27%, Ahmadis are at 0.09% while others make up only 0.02% .
