Ravichandran Ashwin became the center of an amusing event during a TNPL 2024 game between Nellai Royal Kings and Dindigul Dragons on Sunday.
In the course of dragons’ 15th over, bowler Mohan Prasath gave Ashwin a warning for leaving non-striker’s end too early. Interestingly as it might seem to all who saw the proceedings both at the ground and on television broadcast, Ashwin had his bat lying on the crease till a moment before he started running towards it.
The commenters were holding nothing back and burst into laughing as they narrated this humorous event live.
Star Sports shared a video of this incident on social media with its caption in Tamil which if translated in English said “Ash Anna be like: Headmaster of the school you studied in!”
Mankading is a dismissal method where bowler runs out non-striker for backing up too far which created an uproar after Ashwin dismissed Jos Buttler during an IPL match played in 2019. Ever since that match, Ashwin has been vocal about his support for that mode of dismissal which many people consider being fair since it does not breach any cricket rules.
Ashwin’s attitude and behavior still provoke questions and emphasize how crucial it is to play according to rules.
