On Tuesday, Gautam Gambhir, newly appointed as head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, led the first practice session in Pallekele in a build-up for three T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Gambhir assumed control from his highly regarded predecessor Rahul Dravid and led the side onto the pitch while he supervised a practice session involving fielding drills, individual sessions with players among others.
The exercises mainly consisted of running, fielding and discussions. The above information has been reported by PTI who suggested that Suryakumar Yadav also interacted with team members.
Gambhir talked to Sanju Samson about batting techniques and Shivam Dube on something else during that session
His coaching staff for the Sri Lanka tour include Ryan ten Doeschate who played as a Dutch batsman all-rounder and former Indian all-rounder Abhishek Nayar. They had previously worked together to lead Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to victory in IPL 2024.
This will be their first assignment with the national squad beginning with T20Is on 27th July followed by three ODIs.
Fielding coach T Dilip (another member of Dravid’s backroom staff), will keep his role while Sairaj Bahutule, who comes from National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru would take up interim bowling coach duties.
