This was Vinesh Phogat’s reaction after defeating Yusneylis Guzman Lopez of Cuba.
The chief minister of Haryana, Mr. Nayab Saini, on 8th August, 2024, announced that the State government will treat wrestler Vinesh Phogat at par with an Olympic silver medallist.
In a post on X, Mr. Saini said that the government will offer to Phogat similar prize money and facilities as what is given to an Olympic silver medalist.
“She reached finals but could not play it due to some reasons. For us she is still a champion,” Chief Minister wrote in his Facebook post.
She retired from wrestling on Thursday (August 8, 2024), one day after being declared unqualified for Paris Olympics finals under the category of 50kg. She was not allowed to wrestle because she weighed more than 100g above the set limit during morning weigh-in prior to the final match.
