On Wednesday night at the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards (ESPY), held in Los Angeles, Prince Harry was awarded the Pat Tillman honor despite earlier criticism.
Mary, the mother of war martyr Pat Tillman, expressed her astonishment when she learned about him being picked to receive the award. She stated: “I can’t understand why they would decide on a character who is so divisive and controversial.”
Mary criticized ‘SportsCenter’ for selecting Prince Harry for an award while suggesting other deserving people from the veteran community. Despite this, he thanked Marie Tillman and acknowledged Mary Tillman’s fight for her son’s honor.
“Her commitment to Pat’s legacy is personal and one I deeply appreciate,” Harry said. The bond between a mother and a son is unbreakable even at its worst moments.
The Duke of Sussex was handed this prize as a result of his creation of the Invictus Games 2014 which helps wounded service men through Paralympic type games.
This was followed by everyone standing up including Meghan Markle who also clapped hands for Harry.
Speaking on stage at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, he said, “This award doesn’t belong to me; it belongs to them.”
Three service veterans that were injured whilst on duty presented Harry with his trophy. This made sense to those soldiers due to his ten years serving in Britain’s military which included two tours as an apache helicopter pilot in Afghanistan.
Parami News confirms that ESPN announced ahead of ESPYs awards that prince harry would be honored because he has used his position to change world thereby making it inclusive for marginalized communities who suffer a lot but still exhibit great resilience positivity and perseverance.
It was thirty minutes delayed due to President Joe Biden’s press conference before The ESPYs began which included other athletes like A’ja Wilson from Las Vegas Aces who won Best Women’s Sports Athlete and JuJu Watkins who won Best Breakthrough Athlete.
