In a tribute to his sporting idol, Australian Test Captain Pat Cummins read out a poem titled, Lightning in a bottle: An ode to Shane Warne written by Adam Burnett in the year 2022. Cricket Australia posted a video where Julie Wilkins’s text was read out and Warne’s contributions were discussed.
Cummins’ reading concentrated on Warne’s talent and warrior’s role. “Lightning in a bottle” was what most resonated with people, capturing one of the many talents that was Shane Warne. The poem positioned him, apart from being an exceptional cricketer as a showman who played a central role in the evolution of the sport.
Fans in every corner of the world catalogued the great Shane Warne quite vividly, notably, “the ball of the century” which Shane bowled to Mike Gatting in 1993.
Cummins’ tribute was also sort of a reminder of an ICC video, where Nasser Hussain was seen paying a tribute to Warne by reading out ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling.
Warne’s son shared a picture with his father on social media saying, “Happy birthday happy birthday dad @shanewarne23 #55. ”
The former Australian cricketer Warne who was born on 13th September 1969 died in 2022. He is remembered as one great player of the game known for changing the art of leg spin. Warne took 708 Test wickets during the period 1992 – 2007, spanning his career. Though having a rather troubled personal life, Warne remains an important figure in cricket history.
