Gautam Gambhir Press Conference Live: In terms of Surya Kumar Yadav, hardik pandya’s Ajit Agarkar, India’s main selector said on Monday that the pendulum swung because of fitness, dressing room feedback and being consistently available.
The newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir was speaking with Agarkar during a media conference in front of India’s tour to Sri Lanka. The series will feature three T20 internationals games and as many ODIs against Sri Lanka starting from July 27.
“Fitness was a clear challenge and we wanted someone who was likely to be available more often”, said Agarkar at the joint press meet.
“One of the best T20 batters is going to captain; he is likely to play all the games as captain. We think he is a deserving captain and we will see how he fits into the role.”
In relation to star all-rounder Pandya, Agarkar added “the difficult skill-set to find but also hard for us to get them in terms of fitness. however we can look at few things now since we have some more time left”.
“Fitness was a clear challenge and we wanted someone who was likely to be available more often,” Agarkar said!
“We also sought views from others in the team,” he continued.
When asked why former vice-captain KL Rahul had been overlooked, his response simply was “I wasn’t there when KL was superseded.”
The T20 series against Sri Lanka will begin on July 27, followed by matches on July 28 and 30th respectively.
All matches will be played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
In these three matches Suryakumar Yadav will lead a 15-member T20 squad
Additionally, ODI’s on August 2nd, 4th &7th will take place at R Premadasa Stadium Colombo.
Rohit Sharma will captain the one-day international team of India again after retiring from T20 internationals following India’s victory at the world cup in West Indies last month.
