Zee Studios in partnership with India Signing Hands is pleased to announce that the film, Gadar 2, which was a hit when it premiered last year, will be released again on the first anniversary. The follow-up became one of the highest grossing Hindi films of all time after having stole millions of hearts of citizens across the country, and now it is returning to cinemas for a reason. To make cinema accessible to everyone, Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma starrer will have an Indian Sign Language (ISL) interpreted version for deaf audience viewers.
In an official statement from Zee Studios posted on their website they expressed their delight at partnering with PVR Cinemas on this initiative to screen the movie to disabled people and give them a more immersive experience at select locations across India. Zee Studios were approached by India Signing Hands (ISH News), a Mumbai-based organization founded by Mr. Alok Kejriwal (Deaf). It provides accessibility solutions for the Deaf. This information made them happy since it meant that they had played a crucial role in this collaboration as well.
“Gadar 2 is a film which reflects every Indian citizen”, says Umesh Kr Bansal – CBO, Zee Studios. “We are glad bringing it back on a big screen one year later with a purposeful motive. Our priority is making sure that cinema can be accessed by everyone; we are very proud of partnering with India Signing Hands towards accomplishing this aim.”
Sunny Deol also expressed his happiness stating that “Gadar 2 has been and will always remain close to my heart.” This meant a lot to me because I love receiving love from people who watch my movie even after one year has passed. By re-releasing it with an interpretation in Indian sign language we hope that Gadar 2 will resonate even louder with other audiences now.” Ameesha Patel also added “It has been an amazing journey being part of Gadar films.” It feels great taking back Sakina’s story on the screens again especially for such special audience as those who might not have time to enjoy cinema as much as other people, and I hope this will motivate other filmmakers to create more inclusive and accessible films.”
Alok Kejriwal, Founder and CEO of ISH News thanked Zee Studios for their understanding & empathy on the Deaf community’s accessibility needs in entertainment.
The movie Gadar 2 set against the backdrop of the third Indo-Pakistan war (1971) tells of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), a hero who crossed over enemy lines to save his son Charanjeet (Utkarsh Sharma) from all odds.
