Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said that the first round of the Duleep Trophy should have picked India’s seasoned international cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah who are now “well-rested”. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar.
The tournament which is the first in domestic cricket season of India which commences on September 5, will be held in Bangalore and Anantapur. The earlier zonal system stuck from the structure has gone to four teams of Indian teams A and B and C and D which are selected by the BCCI selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar.
“In five years India has played 249 international games Rohit has played around 59% of those. Virat 61% & Bumrah 34%. Plus those are well rested India players who I look at. They could have been selected for the Duleep trophy,” Manjrekar added on ‘X’.
A member of the Board of control for cricket of India has reported on Tuesday that, Ravindra Jadeja has reverted from participation and it has not given any reasons. In the same way, Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik will also not play as they are recovering from the recent illness, while Rei Saini and Gaurav Yadav has been trained.
The Duleep Trophy will be beneficial in spotting players for India’s busy Test schedule and their preparedness as there is a place for the finalists of ISRS World Test Championship.
India’s upcoming series will feature a two-match Test series against Bangladesh which will start on September 19 at Chennai followed by the second Test at Kanpur beginning on September 27.
This will be followed by three Test matches against New Zealand in Bengaluru, Pune and Mumbai. After which, the squad will head Down Under for the Border Gavaskar Trophy that starts on 22nd November in Perth.
