Local officials said that an oil depot in the Rostov region of southwestern Russia went up in flames on Saturday after being attacked by a Ukrainian drone early in the day, marking Kiev’s latest long distance attack on border areas. In recent months, Ukraine has increased its air raids into Russian territory targeting refineries and oil terminals to slow down Kremlin’s war machine. Moscow’s army is pushing hard on the front line in eastern Ukraine where defenders have become vulnerable following three years of fighting with a shortage of troops and ammunition.
According to Rostov regional Governor Vasily Golubev, a fire spanning 200 square metres (2,100 square feet) was ignited as a result of a drone attack but there were no casualties. A few hours later, after notifying about the fire through Telegram, Golubev reported that it had been put out.
The Ministry of Defense disclosed yesterday night that apart from two drones intercepted over Rostov region, Russian air defense systems had destroyed two over Kursk and Belgorod regions westwards of the country.
Also overnight Ukraine’s air defences brought down four out of five drones launched by Russia last night morning according to Ukrainian Air Force. Mykola Oleschuk who is commander-in-chief at Ukraine Air Forces said the fifth one left Ukrainian airspace towards Belarus.
Furthermore Vadym Filashkin governor for part-occupied Eastern Donetsk region yesterday stated that there were six people killed and twenty-two wounded because of Russian attacks on Friday.
Oleksandr Prokudin, governor for Kherson region also under partial occupation confirmed today that as a result of previous day’s shelling by Russians one person died while six were wounded.
