NEW DELHI: The host state association has taken the necessary steps to address the issues faced by fans during the opening day of the second Test between India and New Zealand in Pune. After struggling to find drinking water on the first day, spectators were pleased to see that the association had made the required arrangements on Friday.
Approximately 100,000 liters of RO water in 20-liter cans have been distributed effectively among booths for the second day’s play on Friday, an official informed PTI.
A total of 3,800 bottles of 20 liters each are available for use on the second day, which remains hot and humid. An additional 500 bottles are kept in the stadium’s vicinity as a backup.
An extra batch of 700 bottles has also been stored elsewhere in case of later requirements.
On Thursday, frustrated fans criticized the Maharashtra Cricket Association after finding no water at the booths.
MCA secretary Kamlesh Pisal later apologized for the inconvenience.
“Our sincere apologies to all the fans for the inconvenience caused. We will ensure things will be alright going forward. We have already addressed the water issue,” he said.
Volunteers and security personnel immediately began distributing packaged water bottles from other storage areas, but it took time, leading to fans’ frustration.
The problem arose due to a delay in the vehicle transporting water from the plant to the stadium.
Since last year’s ODI World Cup, host cricket boards have been arranging free drinking water at stadiums.
