Hurricane Helene was a Category 4 hurricane that hit the Florida Big Bend region, the US National Hurricane Center reported on Thursday. The maximum sustained winds of the powerful storm were 140 miles per hour and caused outages in power and too much water in the regions, making it the strongest storm in this part of Texas.
“According to NWS Doppler radar, Helenes’ eye made its landfall as a category 4 hurricane in the Florida Big Bend region at approximately 11.10 pm EDT (0310 UTC), which was approximated to the east of the mouth of Aucilla River,” as stated by the US agency in a press release.
Two people were reportedly killed by what seemed to be a tornado in southern Georgia as the storm approached, the AP said. More than 70,000 residents of Franklin, Taylor, Liberty and Wakulla counties were also ordered to evacuate because of the storm.
