On Tuesday, Neeraj Chopra will finally make his much-awaited show at the Paris Olympics as he starts off defending his historical gold medal he won in Tokyo during the qualification round in French Capital.
Kishore Jena also makes it for the Paris games by winning a silver medal at last year’s Asian Games in Hangzhou, which was won by Neeraj Chopra, who has also won two straight Asiad golds and is the reigning world champion.
Jena will be starting in Group A of 15 other throwers on Tuesday and then Neeraj is now placed in Group B of another 16 throwers making it an overall field of 32 athletes.
The men’s javelin-throw competition qualification rules are as follows:
- The qualifying distance has been fixed at 84 metres and any thrower achieving this mark would automatically enter into the final event.
- If none of the throwers is able to attain 84 meters required for qualifications then best performed 12 according to distances secured are advanced to finals.
- According to Paris Games regulations; if more than 12 athletes hit an Olympic standard of 84 meters, then all these athletes progress to finals.
