The leadership of Shubman Gill has been recognized by former India cricketer and selector Saba Karim in the T20I series against Zimbabwe but he recommended that more consistency should be shown in his batting.
Gill, who led a young Indian team to a 4-1 series win in his first outing as captain. Finished top scorer with 170 runs at an average of 42.5 and a strike-rate of 125.93.
On Sony Sports, Karim praised Gill for showing character while under pressure after India lost their first T20I. “Shubman Gill as a captain and a batter. I was expecting more consistency from Shubman Gill’s bat than what he showed. It wasn’t there. He’s done fantastically well as a captain though. A defeat in the first match especially for a young leader puts him under pressure.”
Karim also lauded Gill for guiding his team through tough spells despite his criticism on the batter’s inconsistent performance level.

Karim said, “He urged his team to unity very well” adding that Gill was a great motivator and an effective captain.
Karim also heaped praises on Yashasvi Jaiswal who joined the series partway through and immediately struck form.
“Jaiswal is making runs. He wasn’t given an opportunity in the World Cup. It’s not easy when you haven’t batted for a long time and haven’t played matches to suddenly show form as soon as you come.” We did, however, observe that,” Karim continued while underlining the excellent performance of Jaiswal despite encountering difficult playing conditions.
