Dawid Malan, the former top-ranked T20 batter, has called it a day in international cricket
The member of the 2006 England squad explained to the Times of London at 36 years of age that while he enjoyed great successes in the context of white-ball cricket, it was surprising to him that he could not withstand the pressure of Test cricket.
Dawid Malan played 22 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 62 T20 internationals for England during which he found much success in T20 cricket where he led the ranking chart in 2020 and was part of the English squad that conquered the T20 world cup in 2022.
However, since the last year’s 50-over World Cup, Dawid Malan only played test cricket for England and has now missed the selection for the ODI series squad against Australia.
His swelling aspirations never saw his Test record grow more appreciably and it has to this day left his envious heart disappointed for not penetrating in such a manner.
“I took all three formats extremely seriously but the intensity of Test cricket was something else – five days plus the days building up – Melan told the Times”.
“Me, I’m not disciplined but I’m a big trainer, I love hitting lots of balls and I’d train hard in the build-up, and then the days were long and intense, why, you can’t switch off,” he said.
“I did find it very mentally draining most eminently in the longer Test series that I did where my performance faded away from the third or fourth Test.”
