Chris Woakes, the Englishman who plays cricket for England disclosed not playing cricket due to his grief after his dad’s death.
The 35-year-old all-rounder was noticeably missing in the Punjab Kings’ IPL roster and he also didn’t make it into England’s squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup held at the tail end of April.
Woakes, who represents Warwickshire, posted in social media expressing his emotions.
“Unfortunately my dad passed away at the beginning of May which made last month the most challenging period of my life. I’ve spent time with my family these past few weeks – those closest to me. We’re all grieving because it’s absolutely one of the hardest times we’ve ever experienced as a family. At times like this, perspective is everything,” he said.
Furthermore, Woakes who helped England win a fifty overs World Cup in 2019 added: “When I and my family are ready I will eventually play cricket again for Warwickshire, a team that was very close to my father’s heart. My father was immensely proud that I played for Warwickshire and England at cricket. Hopefully this will happen soon.”
With over 200 caps across all three formats of international cricket including 48 Test matches, Woakes has represented England on more than 200 occasions.
