England’s cricket team is currently monitoring Chris Woakes’s health status ahead of the three-Test series against Sri Lanka. The Hundred tournament has seen him withdraw because of an injury. This comes immediately after captain Ben Stokes was helped off the field on Sunday.
The 35-year-old Woakes was named in England’s Test squad and was also supposed to play in Phoenix’s final two group stage fixtures at The Hundred.
“Chris Woakes has withdrawn from the competition with injury. The England bowling all-rounder will no longer be a part of this year’s competition,” Birmingham Phoenix announced on their Instagram account late Monday.
Ben Stokes, the Test skipper, might not play in the first Test against Sri Lanka that begins on August 21st at Old Trafford. Playing in The Hundred he strained his hamstring; it is believed that Stokes picked up a hamstring problem while playing for Durham.
If both all-rounders are ruled out of the Sri Lanka series, it will question England’s squad depth.
Now they await further assessments on fitness by scrutinizing how well-prepared they are for these two people, Mr. Woakes and Mr.. Stokes.
