In an amusing exchange of reactions, tech billionaire Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr, son of US President-elect Donald Trump, have responded to a meme on X that compares Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to Kevin McAllister, the main protagonist character from the comedy Hollywood movie Home Alone 2.
Trump Jr reposted the meme on Tuesday with laughing emojis, prompting a similar response from Musk.
The meme features a scene from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), in which 10-year-old Kevin, played by Macaulay Culkin, asks Donald Trump for directions to the Plaza Hotel lobby. Trump, who owned the hotel at the time, made a brief cameo in the movie.
The top half of the meme shows Trump giving Kevin directions, while the bottom half replaces Kevin with Zelensky, photo-edited to wear a hat similar to the one Kevin wears in the film.
The image in the meme was taken during Trump’s recent meeting with Zelensky in Paris, where the President-elect attended the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral. Trump, Zelensky, and French President Emmanuel Macron held a trilateral meeting to discuss the Ukraine conflict and efforts for peace and security.
Reports claim that Trump was initially “reluctant” to meet Zelensky but decided at the last moment. The 45-minute meeting drew attention due to Zelensky’s choice of attire—a black sweatshirt with the Ukrainian Armed Forces emblem, a military-style jacket, and combat boots—while Trump and Macron were dressed in formal suits.
Donald Trump, back in 2019, responded to his appearance in Home Alone 2 by calling it an “honour.” “I was a little bit younger… It turned out to be a very big hit, obviously,” said Trump. “It’s an honour to be involved in something like that,” he added.
