TUXTLA GUTIÉRREZ: The two attacks were reported to have left eight people dead in Chiapas, southern part of Mexico, over the last week end. It was reported that the two candidates survived while one was wounded during the night and morning attacks on Saturday from Villa Corzo and Mapastepec according to a statement released by it.
The violence in Chiapas has intensified against individuals attempting to contest in the June 2 election, which will also elect Mexican president.
In La Concordia municipality near Villa Corzo about six lives including that of a minor child and mayoral candidate Lucero Lopez were lost when they had been ambushed after concluding their campaign rally at least two weeks ago.
Data Civica (NGO) has revealed that since September last year, more than two dozen politicians have died.
Since then almost half million people have been killed as the spiraling criminal violence continued due to “drug cartel” military offensive launched by then President Felipe Calderon in 2006.
The homicide rate tripled to 23 per 100,000 people ahead of others.
According to surveys carried out this month most Mexicans consider loosing security as their greatest concern for the next administration.
