On Friday, DRI, BZU officials stopped an international drug racket and apprehended a Kenyan national aged 24 years for smuggling cocaine worth ₹30 on his person at the Kempegowda International Airport. Based on prior information, complex surveillance followed by interception of the mule who flew from Doha to Bengaluru on Friday in a flight of Indigo airlines and landed at KIA.
After thorough examination of passenger’s luggage packets containing off-white colored powdered substance weighing 3 kg worth ₹30 crore were found concealed ingeniously in the false bottom of her check-in baggage. The powder substance was found positive for Cocaine using field testing kit. Passenger was arrested under NDPS Act,1985 for further investigation. Only a mule from Kenya, the accused is being investigated as to who hired him and where did they get the drugs.
Earlier this month, officers from DRI, BZU detained two Indian women passengers from Tamil Nadu coming to Bengaluru from Bangkok on July 5th. A systematic search of their bags revealed that they contained greenish lumpy substances which were concealing something else. Hydroponic weed was found. They have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody and packets weighing 3.2 kg valued at ₹3 crore has been seized.
The two mules received Rs 25,000 each along with tourist visa, accommodation & food expenses for this trip. These handlers are believed by DRI officials to be targeting fresh faces who have no previous record as mules to transport contraband consignments.
